Common NOUN - the name given to a person, place or thing eg book, river, teacher.

PROPER NOUN - the name of a particular person, place or thing. Proper nouns have capital letters. eg George, Melbourne, Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Abstract NOUN- is the name given to feeling or emotion e.g sad, happy, excited.

Collective NOUN- the name given to a group of things e.g a swarm of bees, a flock of birds, a school of fish.

ADJECTIVE -a word which describes a noun eg. big, long, short.

VERB - an action or a doing word. If you can do it, then it’s a verb eg run, hop, skip.

ADVERB- A word that adds to the verb. It tells you how the action was done and normally ends with ly.

PERSONAL PRONOUN - a word which indicates personal onwership eg she, he, they, we, them, their, we,

CONJUNCTION- A word that joins two ideas together in a sentence. eg. and, then, so, but.  One conjunction, one fullstop. A sentence must only contain one conjunction.

PREPOSITION - A word  which indicates the “position” of something, compared to something else eg. the horse is in the paddock, the cat jumped on the table.
